MIGRANT FACILITATION CELL LAUNCHED
Honorable Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, inaugurated a ‘Migrant Cell’ in Surat on 4th January 2021. The first of its kind initiative has been taken up by SMC through its SPV – Surat Smart City Development Limited (SSCDL) and the DAY-NULM. The Migrant Cell is located at the City Livelihoods Centre (CLC) established under the DAY-NULM at Rayka Circle, Udhna, Surat



SETTING UP ENTITLEMENT CAMPS
Common Service Centres (CSCs) scheme is a pan India network of centres delivering essential public utility services, social welfare schemes, healthcare, financial, education and agriculture services. The network is being utilised by SMC for setting up of entitlements delivery camps within the industries in order to process the entitlement applications of migrant workers in Surat.





GETTING MIGRANT WORKERS VACCINATION READY
The data collected through enumeration is being used by the Surat Municipal Corporation call centre for telecalling and spreading awareness regarding vaccination amongst the migrant workers in Surat. SMC has engaged a team of callers to contact all the enumerated migrants and inform them about the pros and cons of vaccination, the nearest vaccination centre in their vicinity, and dosage information.




SURVEY &ENUMERATION BEGINS
In order for migrant workers to getting social security benefits, SMC is enumerating migrant workers, processing entitlement applications for the eligible schemes, and linking the migrants with suitable work opportunities. So far 3500+ migrant workers have been enumerated in Surat and processed entitlements of more than 100 eligible migrant workers.





COVID TESTING ON ARRIVAL
After the first wave of Covid-19, SMC established testing camps for all the incoming migrant workers to Surat. Those tested positive are send for institutional quarantine centres established by Surat Municipal Corporation
